Moscow Dance Centre NRG.
If you trace any modern heels-choreo dancer back far enough, you hit Moscow Dance Centre NRG. Not because they invented the style — they didn't — but because MDC NRG codified the curriculum that the rest of Russia (and later EU, and later Korea) adopted. This is the story of how a third-floor space in a Moscow shopping mall became the single most influential dance institution of the 2010s-2020s.
Founding · 2011-2013
MDC NRG opened its doors in Planeta Leto (ПЛАНЕТАЛЕТО) shopping mall, third floor, Moscow, in 2011. Original offering was Hip-Hop + Break-dance + Jazz-Funk. The neighborhood was wrong for a high-end studio but the rent was wrong for anyone else — and that's how spaces like this get started.
Between 2011 and 2013 the instructor roster grew to 30+. The studio adopted what they called the "Всё в одном" (all-in-one) model: 20 styles under one roof, instructors cross-teaching, students moving between classes the same week. That cross-pollination is what eventually produced the hybrid style — heels choreo.
The heels-choreo turn · 2015-2018
Around 2015 the studio started offering heels-specific classes as a spin-off from Stripdance. At first it was a Tuesday-Thursday evening block. By 2017 it had a dedicated room, a dedicated instructor track, and — most importantly — a dedicated camera setup. MDC NRG filmed every class and published cuts to YouTube.
The videos are what changed everything. You could study MDC NRG classes without being there. By 2018 instructors from other Russian cities were replicating the methodology from watching YouTube uploads.
"Before MDC NRG you learned heels from an American stripdance tape. After MDC NRG you learned from a Russian curriculum. The curriculum was better — not because Americans are worse, but because MDC broke it into counts."
The methodology
- Block progression: 12-week blocks. Week 1-4 isolation. Week 5-8 combinations. Week 9-12 full choreo. Every block ends with a video shoot.
- Mirror formation: 6-12 students in symmetric rows. Guest or senior student stands at the front. Visually: a rehearsal looks identical to a showcase.
- Static wide-shot camera: one tripod, one angle, entire phrase in a single take. Hand-held is banned during filming. This is why MDC NRG videos look like studio-grade showcases instead of Instagram vertical clips.
- Hip-pop on the "and": the Moscow rhythm. American twerk tends to hit on the downbeat. MDC teaches catching the off-beat, which reads as more controlled, less wild.
Лада Гоцци · the reference instructor
Лада Гоцци became the lead heels-choreo instructor around 2019. Her Pharaoh "Пломбир" upload (167K views, 5.00/5 rating over 3,360 ratings) is the single most replayed MDC NRG cut and the de-facto MDC technique example. When instructors in other countries want to show "this is MDC methodology," they point at that video.

Influence · 2020-2025
By 2020, MDC alumni were teaching in:
- Russian regions: Volzhsky (Street Project), Omsk (where Indica did workshops), Ufa (where Dasha Kolesnikova trained).
- EU: Germany (via Kato Dance Studio's Ciri, who studied MDC methods), Czech Republic, Ukraine (Odessa — Nika Chilli).
- Asia: By 2022 iDance Taipei instructors were citing MDC NRG as a reference — they didn't study at the studio but absorbed the methodology through YouTube.
The studio today
MDC NRG still runs out of Planeta Leto, third floor. Classes run year-round. Open enrollment. Reach them via VK: vk.com/mdcnrg, phone +7 915 109 98 89, email streetpro-2010@mail.ru. English is rare but possible — multiple senior instructors work with international students.
The website (nrg-style.ru) has the class schedule, pricing, and instructor bios. For a single drop-in visit with a one-day pass, expect ~1,500 ₽ (~$16 USD).
