Atlanta is where twerk became a cultural export. The strip-dance heritage of the early 2000s fed directly into the hip-hop video pipeline — Magic City, Onyx, the entire ATL club ecosystem. The dance moved from southern bounce, Memphis booty-shake and New Orleans bounce into what the world now calls 'twerk'. Modern ATL studios in Buckhead, Midtown and Decatur train dancers who work between strip-dance, hip-hop video and commercial choreography.
