Bio

Patricia Atakora is a Ghanaian-British dancer based in London, born in Accra, raised between Lagos and east London. Her work sits at the seam where Afrobeats choreography meets twerk technique — a crossover that didn't really have a name when she started posting it in 2022 and has since become a category most London studios offer a class in.

Her training is mixed: a year at the Lagos branch of Spirit of David in 2019, then six years of London open-class circuit (Pineapple, Studio 68, Move Your Frame). The mix shows. She brings azonto footwork to twerk hip phrasing in a way that feels native rather than fusion-y.

Technique signature

Three things make a Patricia Atakora piece. (1) Footwork-up. Where most twerk choreography starts at the hips, hers starts at the feet — quick weight shifts, azonto-style toe articulation, and only then does the hip work come on top. (2) Two-track musicality. She'll layer percussion-following footwork with melody-following upper body, so the dancer is hitting two musical lines at once. (3) Smile present. Her work has joy in it. The London twerk scene has skewed serious for years; she's an explicit counterweight.

Reference repertoire

Strongest cuts cluster around 2023-2024 Afrobeats — Tems, Asake, Tyla, Ayra Starr — with periodic returns to older Burna Boy and Davido tracks. Her Tyla "Water" choreography from late 2023 is the most-shared video and was reposted by Tyla's official accounts twice that quarter.

Why she's on the roster

The Twerkhub archive over-indexed on Latin and East-Asian scenes for years. We had a gap on West African choreography — not because there's a shortage of dancers (there isn't) but because the crossover into twerk-recognized formats was uneven. Patricia is the cleanest bridge. Her work makes Afrobeats legible to a viewer who came in via Korean or Latin twerk, without flattening either side.

Workshops + presence

Teaches monthly in London (Studio 68 most often). Annual Accra residency every December. Has guest-taught at MDC NRG Moscow and at the iDance Taipei summer intensive — those are the two crossovers we covered.

Where to find her

YouTube channel updated bi-weekly. Active on Instagram + TikTok. Booking through her London agency. Open to teaching residencies, less open to commercial brand work.
